Since obtaining my diploma from the renowned Ecole de Traduction de d’Interprétation ETI of the University of Geneva in 1993 I have been working as a freelance interpreter for English and German (also from French) in the private market, with Zurich as my professional domicile. I am a member of the international association of interpreters (AIIC) whose stringent acceptance procedure is a seal of quality.
Essential for the quality of simultaneous interpretation are preparation, vocal control, linguistic mastery, and, above all, experience. In the now almost 30 years of my activity as an interpreter I have worked for countless clients in all kinds of topical areas. My interpretation is shaped by my expertise and skills from all my professional activities. This is what makes my work unique.

Technical matters
Consecutive, simultaneous or remote?
I am adept at both consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Consecutive interpretation, however, is an art mainly practiced at state events today. At the reception of the UN Secretary General I delivered his speech to the Federal Council in German on the basis of the notes I made as he had been speaking. This form of interpretation is dignified but time consuming.
Interpretation therefore is mainly simultaneous today. Casual small events, such as a tour of a museum, can be conducted with a bidule. For large events proper conference technology and the use of a booth are required.
Covid-19 and digitalization have led to greater calls for remote interpreting. A lot is possible technically, but the quality of interpretation and confidentiality suffer with such solutions. When it no longer matters where interpreters work from providers of app-based solutions will find them in low wage countries. In some cases a hub may be the best option.

Synchronization
Having your video synchronized by me is a unique offer that saves you the threefold cost of transcription, translation and recording of the speaker. I will simultaneously interpret your German or French video into English, after proper preparation, of course. The synchronization will be correct and complete and sound pleasant. It is, however, not a perfect voice over with a carefully crafted text, which I am happy to offer as well (see the section on voice over). Synchronization works best for natural speaking contexts, such as lectures, presentations, conversations, training videos.

Fees
My working day is reserved for you after you have booked my. My fee includes preparation for your event, i.e. getting perfectly familiar with the topics of the conference and preparing the individual papers and presentations at the level of language and content. My professional domicile is Zurich.
Fees
CHF 1250 to CHF 1600.
Costs and expenses for events outside Zurich.
